Phyllop Parm Wrapped Asparagus

While actually simple to make, this will not only make your table look beautiful at a party, but the taste is truly to-die-for.  In fact, l invented this pairing just for a happy movie night to replace dinner with some cheese choices, grapes, and wine.  It’s that good.

Phyllo Parm Wrapped Asparagus With Wasabi Mayonnaise Dip
Recipe type: Appetizer
Serves: 30 spears
  • Asparagus:
  • 1 package phyllo dough, defrosted (you will have dough sheets leftover)
  • ½ stick butter, melted
  • 30 spears fresh asparagus (preferably thin spears), washed, ends trimmed at base
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • freshly grated black pepper
  • Wasabi Mayonnaise Dip:
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1½ tsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 2 tsp. wasabi paste
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Remove phyllo from package and place a very-barely damp towel over it to keep it moist. (If phyllo gets too dry, it dried out and becomes hard to work with, but it is overly damp it will be mushy.)
  3. Remove one sheet and lay it on a cutting board. Brush with a thin layer of melted butter, then sprinkle with some parmesan and fresh pepper. Repeat with 2 more layers until you have 3 layers, all topped with butter, parm, and pepper.
  4. Cut phyllo dough down the middle then cut four more equally spaced slits on each side of that cut to make 10 equal strips. (see photo)
  5. Position a stalk of the asparagus on the bottom edge of the aspargus and roll upward. Brush the tips and outside with more butter and place on a baking pan.
  6. Bake until golden brown, approximately 15 minutes or until golden brown. (Make wasabi mayo while they are cooking) and serve warm with mayo
  7. To make wasabi mayonnaise dip simply whisk together all ingredients and, if desired, top with any extra parmesan for garnish
